Background

 

Climacell is a weather technology company that powers actionable weather insights around the world. The company’s mission is to help people and organizations manage weather related challenges with the best information and metrics. Using repurposed wireless communication networks as weather sensors, ClimaCell delivers real-time forecasts to critical industries and entities such as municipalities, sports, and transportation.

The Challenge

 

Last year, Climacell’s B2C team launched a brand new mobile app. As they scaled the marketing activity to grow the app’s user base, the process to measure and optimize marketing ROI became increasingly complex. 

The team had to leverage multiple advertising, analytics, and marketing sources, along with the different insights coming from various app stores. Climacell also needed a better holistic picture of how users engaged within the app.

Additionally, the team had to align data from app stores, analytics tools like Mixpanel, attribution platforms such as AppsFlyer, and advertising sources such as Google or Facebook. A solution was required to help the team make sense of the chaotic marketing and mobile jigsaw.

The Solution

 

Tomer Coreanu, Climacell’s Director of R&D & Product Manager, decided to build an in-house solution to align all data. Google BigQuery was the cloud warehouse, while Tableau visualized all the resulting insights. To orchestrate data, Tomer knew that building an ETL solution from scratch wasn’t feasible.

After researching and testing multiple market alternatives, the team chose Rivery for two reasons. Firstly, Rivery provided all the API connectors they needed. Rivery had off-the-shelf integrations to the marketing, analytics, and product platforms they were using. The platform also had connectors to Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store, which other companies couldn’t offer.

Secondly, Rivery’s platform was extremely simple to use. The product was easy to set up and required no maintenance. In addition, the responsiveness and agility of Rivery’s support team throughout the testing phases became a decisive factor.

The Outcome

Rivery became Climacell’s go-to tool to get data into Google BigQuery from any source. A year after the initial adoption, other business units replicated the team’s success by using Rivery to facilitate their own data processes. Teams including Customer Support and Operations now use Rivery to create dashboards pulling data from platforms such as Jira.

Climacell is a truly data-driven company. The new insights and visualization via Tableau dashboards are used widely, from marketing and product teams, to management and executive teams. The next big project will leverage Rivery to create a centralized and holistic view of performance KPIs across the entire company, including all different products, divisions, and departments, in a single unified dashboard.
