With over three hundred thousand employees in 48 countries, Veolia is a global leader in energy, water and waste management. Veolia’s mission is to resource the world, helping their customers address their environmental and sustainability challenges in energy, water and waste – improving energy efficiency, managing their water and wastewater, and recovering resources from their wastes.

The Challenge

To manage their Big Data efforts, Veolia established their ‘Digital Factory’, a purpose-built team with the goal of digitizing the company’s data and facilitate its transition to the cloud. As part of their ongoing relationship with Google to manage and maximise their cloud capabilities, they were introduced to Rivery as one of Google’s partners to help enterprises manage their data more efficiently when making the transition to the cloud.

The Solution

Rivery became instrumental to transform all their data in successive layers managing everything through BigQuery. With Rivery, Veolia can automatically schedule their data operation in BigQuery. In addition, it gives them the ability to create a central data repository to document, collaborate, and archive all their insights efficiently.

Before using Rivery, the team at Veolia had to develop and code their own processes in order to execute their data operations – something which isn’t only expensive but also significantly time consuming. Now they’re able to build their own data processes using Rivery Logic, by which Veolia can create data flows that will execute SQL queries against their BigQuery, and transform data into “one truth.”

Once the data is aggregated and streamlined through, all the relevant teams in the corporation can use it – data scientists and data analysts across the business can access their data for further analysis or visualization.

The Outcome

In a large enterprise, rolling out a new system or process is a big challenge. However, as they understand the benefits of creating a central data lake, more and more people are starting to use the cloud and Rivery for their data needs. For Veolia’s data and analytics teams leading this transition, Rivery has provided them with 3 key benefits:

  1. Productivity and Efficiency: with Rivery, Veolia can automate and schedule executions, helping them to plan how and when their data is loaded.
  2. Ease of Use: the simplicity to schedule queries help them save time and resource since they no longer need development to manage their data.
  3. Enabling Collaboration: as the company’s data and analytics teams move towards the cloud, Rivery enables accessibility across the business, sharing data with other teams through a central repository for all data.

We look forward to supporting Veolia’s vision to digitalize their data operations and optimize the way data is processed, managed, and shared across the business with Rivery.
