Data Lake Definition

Data Lake

A data lake is a centralized location for storage that allows an organization to keep any amount or size of structured or unstructured data. This data can be stored in its natural form and does not have to be adjusted to fit any one succinct format. You can keep it as it is without having to restructure or format it a certain way, while also being able to analyze the information as you need to. Machine learning, visualizations, dashboards, real-time analytics, and big data processing can all be utilized within a data lake using data as it is created in its natural form. Data lakes can be maintained on-premise, or in the cloud, depending on the needs of a company.
